FIFTY   YEARS   AGO
THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD
1927   -   BB3   ELECTRIC   SWITCHERS   -  1955


THE OCTOBER 1955 LONG ISLAND RAILROADER HAD A FEATURE ARTICLE ABOUT OPERATIONS AT BAY RIDGE YARD AND THE COVER PHOTOGRAPH SHOWED BB3 ELECTRICS SWITCHING THE FLOAT BRIDGES.   INSIDE THE MAGAZINE IT WAS MENTIONED THAT THE BB3 SWITCHERS HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED BY DIESELS.




ALTHOUGH INVARIABLY USED IN PAIRS THE UNITS COULD BE RUN INDIVIDUALLY.   RICHIE HARRISON EXPLAINED THAT DUE TO THE SHARP CURVES IN THE BROOKLYN ARMY TERMINAL ONLY ONE UNIT WAS USED THERE.

THE   REACHER   CAR   KEPT   THE   LOCOMOTIVES   OFF   THE   FLOAT   BRIDGE   APRON




NUMBERS   324   AND   336   AT   BAY   RIDGE   ENGINE   HOUSE


YARDS   AND   SIDE   TRACKS   HAD   BEEN   ELECTRIFIED


ROD   DIRKES   PHOTOGRAPHED   NUMBER   335   AND   ANOTHER
UNIT   AT   NEW   LOTS   YARD   ON   OCTOBER   10,   1936


PASQUALE   ("PATSY")   DI MASI   IN   THE   CAB   AT   BAY   RIDGE   ENGINE   HOUSE


SOME   BB3'S   WERE   SOLD   TO   THE   PENNSYLVANIA   RAILROAD   WHICH   RAN
THEM   AS   SINGLE   UNITS.   THIS   IS   SUNNYSIDE   YARD   IN   NOVEMBER   1955.
