CROSSING OF THE ATLANTIC AND MANHATTAN BEACH DIVISIONS

THIS VIEW IS LOOKING WEST IN 1903 - THE TOWER WAS NUMBER 63,   LATER "NO".
THE ATLANTIC BRANCH TRACKS HAVE BEEN SHIFTED TO THE
NORTH AND SOUTH FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TUNNEL



THAT'S A RAPID TRANSIT TRAIN APPROACHING ON THE TEMPORARY EASTBOUND TRACK.
THE EASTBOUND PLATFORM OF THE EAST NEW YORK STATION IS JUST PAST THE CROSSING


WHEN OPENED IN 1904 MANUAL BLOCK RULES WERE IN EFFECT THROUGH THE TUNNEL.
THERE WERE SIGNAL STATIONS AT EACH END - RALPH AVENUE AND STONE AVENUE.
COLOR LIGHT AUTOMATIC SIGNALS WERE PUT INTO SERVICE IN 1906.


THIS 1905 VIEW SHOWS THAT THE CONNECTING TRACKS AND SWITCHES TO THE
MANHATTAN BEACH DIVISION WERE STILL IN PLACE.   THE SEMAPHORE SIGNAL TO THE LEFT WAS
THE EASTBOUND DISTANT SIGNAL (HOME SIGNAL WHEN SWITCHES WERE INTERLOCKED) OF "NO" TOWER.






IN 1943 ATLANTIC AVENUE WAS ELEVATED ABOVE THE
EAST NEW YORK STATION AND EAST PORTAL OF THE 1904 TUNNEL
