THE   SOUTH   BROOKLYN   RAILROAD   AND   TERMINAL   COMPANY
THE   SOUTH   BROOKLYN   RAILWAY   COMPANY




THE SOUTH BROOKLYN AND FLATBUSH RAILROAD COMPANY WAS CHARTERED SEP-
TEMBER 29, 1886 TO BUILD FROM THE BROOKLYN CITY LINE TO JAMAICA.   A SPECIAL FRANCHISE WAS GRANTED JULY 11, 1887 TO BUILD A RAILROAD FROM NEW YORK BAY TO THE BROOKLYN CITY LINE.   ON OCTOBER, 3, 1887 THE S.B.& F.R.R. BECAME THE
SOUTH BROOKLYN RAILROAD AND TERMINAL COMPANY AND WAS SOON LEASED TO THE BROOKLYN, BATH & WEST END.   IT ALLOWED THEIR TRAINS TO REACH 39TH STREET FERRY.   ON JUNE 30, 1897 THE LEASE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD.
THE S.B.R.R.& T.Co. WAS SOLD IN FORECLOSURE DECEMBER 19, 1899.

THE SOUTH BROOKLYN RAILWAY COMPANY WAS CHARTERED JANUARY 13, 1900
AND ON JANUARY 17 OBTAINED THE PROPERTY OF THE S.B.R.R.& T.R.R.Co.

BEGAN   RUNNING   TO   THE   39TH   STREET   FERRY

THE   39TH   STREET   TROLLEY   CARS   TURNED   ON   LOOP   TRACKS




THE S.B.R.R.&T.CO. WAS BUILT IN A CUT, LATER KNOWN AS "CULVER CUT", AND PASSED UNDER FOURTH AVENUE, WAS IN A TUNNEL BENEATH FIFTH AND SIXTH AVENUES AND WENT UNDER SEVENTH AND EIGHTH AVENUES.   IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH WORK HAS BEGUN ON THE NINTH AVENUE STATION IMPROVEMENT.
